College Reflection

Reflection

The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey has made me a more confidant person.  My passion for math and science has guided me throughout college to emerge and surprise myself from the new abilities and skills I developed while continuing my education.  My skills have advanced to a level that I feel comfortable entering the professional world to take on any task given before me. Group work with my peers and professionals were some of the most valuable resources I have come to use.

I feel quite fortunate to have taken the opportunity in joining clubs and programs on campus.  The NJPIRG Weatherization program gave me in depth understanding of defining my leadership and organization skills.  Through the program's field experience, I taught home owners how to make inexpensive changes not only cut back on their at home energy bills, but also lessening the dependence of domestic energy needs in America.  Through educational campaigns in the environmental club, it was quite rewarding to see that my lessons expanded the consciousness of those who were not previously informed on environmental issues.  In NJPIRG I also volunteered for other projects that taught lessons on pollution to grade school students.  I was able to interact with the youth and watch their concerns grow on the issues of pollution that we stressed.  The students were ready to immediately make a change in the world, they also taught me on how to present myself to a classroom full of children and keep focus on topics.

The classes I have found passions for are among the math and science concentrations.  The courses I found most intreging and valuable are Chemistry, Genetics, Biology, Marine Biology, Ecological Principles, Wildlife Management, Cartography, Trigonometry, and Statistics and Computers.  These courses have supplied me with a wide range in useful knowledge and skills that I will apply in my career.
These courses have readied me to analyse data that could save an endangered species, make useful and accurate maps using ArcView GIS, built skills how to safely observe wildlife causing little to no disturbance to habitat.
